What does the program provide?

Annual federal tax credit of up to $2,000 a year (40% of annual mortgage interest payment) for as long as you own and live in the home

What does the program require?

Buyer must

  • Be a first-time homebuyer, unless the property is in a targeted area or the loan is for qualified home improvement or rehabilitation
  • Owning a home in the last three years disqualifies applicant as a first-time homebuyer
  • Live in the property as a primary residence
  • Apply for the program when applying for an FHA, VA or conventional mortgage loan from any lender in the State of Arizona
  • Pay a one-time program fee of $1,000 plus an annual administration fee of $100

The property must

  • Be located in the City of Tucson
  • Be a new or existing single family home, including duplexes and manufactured housing

Where does the program funding come from?

Federal tax credit provided by the U.S. Department of the Treasury through the Internal Revenue Service.
