A yet-to-be-named Indoor Football League team is coming to the Tucson Arena for the 2019 IFL season was the announcement at a press conference Thursday.

In his remarks, team co-owner Kevin Guy thanked the mayor, City of Tucson staff, Rio Nuevo, and SMG, which manages the Tucson Convention Center and the Tucson Arena, for helping bring indoor football to Tucson. He also announced a “Name the Team” contest.

Indoor football takes place on a smaller field, in a shorter time frame. Fans are close enough to the field to exchange high-fives with the players.

Billed as “Half the Field, Double the Football, Triple the Fun,” indoor football moves at a faster clip and is a higher-scoring game than regular football.

Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild summed it up as, “Indoor football is to regular football as the Sonoran hot dog is to the regular hot dog,” and encouraged Tucsonans to check it out.
