Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild and Second Chance Tucson will host a job fair for returning citizens (returning from incarceration) Wednesday, August 19th, at the Tucson Convention Center with 42 local employers.
Sponsors include Arizona Jet-Mail, City of Tucson, Community Partnership of Southern Arizona, Culligan, Goodwill Southern Arizona, Jim Click Automotive Team, Pima County Attorney’s Office, Primavera, Sport Clips and Wells Fargo.
Part of the mayor’s initiatives to move people out of poverty, these job and resource fairs help job-seekers overcome barriers to employment that those returning from incarceration often face. Also, having a job reduces the risk of recidivism—of re-offending and ending up back behind bars.
“Most people eventually come out of prison,” said Mayor Rothschild. “We know what works in preventing recidivism—a job. I’m pleased that so many Tucson employers see the benefits from hiring what are often very loyal, committed employees, and are willing to give folks in this population a second chance.”
The job fair runs from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Apache Ballroom at the TCC. For more information, visit http://www.secondchancetucson.org.
