On April 23rd, volunteers from Citi partnered with Trees for Tucson to plant trees at the Rincon Country Mobile Home Park. The shade trees that were planted will help to cool the streets and side walks, shade homes and reduce energy use, and add some aesthetic value to the community. Citi originally contacted Mayor Rothschild’s office to participate in the Mayor’s 10,000 Trees Campaign. They donated 100 trees and then set up a volunteer day for their employees. Trees for Tucson helped to organize the event and supplied the tools and knowledge to get the job done. Part of that knowledge is knowing where to plant trees and what type of trees to plant. The community at Rincon Country Mobile Home Park is in one of the identified at risk areas of the city that has higher than average temperatures associated with below average tree canopy cover. At the end of the day Citi volunteers and Trees for Tucson were able to plant 40 trees! The community will soon see the benefits of the volunteer’s hard work as the trees mature.
