Under the broad heading, “Healthy Tucson,” Mayor Rothschild created several task forces – as part of his 360 Plan – to help make Tucson a great community in which to live. Each task force has a targeted focus:
Education: 3rd grade reading and dropout prevention and recovery
Health & Wellness: Physical activity and awareness of/access to healthy foods
Poverty: Coordinating services for Tucson’s homeless
Seniors: Looking at best practices that address issues relating to senior citizens
Youth: Hold a Mayor’s Summit for Youth Service Nonprofits, to explore opportunities for resource sharing and collaboration, and a Youth Summer Job/Internship Fair
Local communities can work together to give all community members healthy choices and support the pursuit of healthy lifestyles. The Mayor’s Healthy Tucson Initiative will collaborate with existing organizations and build upon their wellness efforts, identify gaps and make new connections that help achieve the vision.
Sustainable change is possible by engaging community members to work in collaboration with community leaders to make changes in policies and the physical surroundings in those communities, so that healthy living is within reach for individuals of all ages, backgrounds and economic conditions.
