The Mayor’s Office is accepting applications for internships for Spring Semester 2014. Internship is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in public service. Internships are unpaid positions.

  • Answer phones; refer constituents to appropriate staff, city departments and other government entities
  • Help prepare proclamations, plaques, certificates and special recognitions
  • Draft correspondence
  • Help with events and special projects
  • Help with research

Program Structure

  • May attend Tucson City Council meetings
  • May attend Mayor’s press conferences
  • Interns will have the opportunity to spend 30 minutes to 1 hour with the mayor during the internship to ask questions
  • May accompany Mayor or staff to events
  • May visit other city departments


  • Must be able to work one or more shifts/week during regular business hours M-F (8 am-noon, 10 am-2 pm, 1 pm-5 pm)
  • Must have access to reliable transportation
  • Ability to multitask and follow directions
  • Ability to remain calm in a fast-paced environment; warm and friendly attitude
  • Professional demeanor; business professional dress (no jeans/sneakers/logo t-shirts)
  • Attention to detail
  • Possess strong skills in Microsoft Word and Excel
